Why train with us?

TRAINING BENEFITS

More than a course, a transformation as a sailor

A unique instructor

Fernando Castagna, commercial airline pilot and experienced skipper, applies aeronautics, CRM and safety concepts to sailing.

Real safety

Training based on professional procedures: meteorology, emergency maneuvers, communications and crew resource management (CRM).

Open-sea practice

No classroom theory. You sail, maneuver and learn directly aboard the Nohokai, in real Mediterranean conditions.

Small groups

Maximum 6 people per session. Each student spends at least 1 hour at the helm of the sailboat.

SAILING TRAINING

Sailing training is an activity born out of the need of people who, after obtaining their PER, PY, CY and PPER certifications and completing the sailing extension, lack enough experience to sail on sailboats.

It is even more necessary for those PPER holders who teach practical classes or sail as Professional Skippers.

It is also aimed at those who simply want to sail and practice the sport of sailing.

My profession as a Commercial Airline Pilot (Boeing 738 Max) led me to train in many aspects of operational safety, procedures, meteorology, CRM, simulators and much more.

The only way to carry out an activity with confidence and within safety margins is to learn and TRAIN... TRAINING is the foundation of professional performance and should be regular, at least once a week.

In the sailing practices, I will apply nautical knowledge, navigation, aerodynamics, CRM and safety. It will be a fun and very enriching activity for everyone. Groups are small, up to 6 people, where each one will be in command of the sailboat for at least 1 hour. In the case of PPER holders, the goal is for them to perform the entire operation on their own, as in real life, and once they are ready, I will bring people aboard as passengers to simulate a charter activity.

Training dates will be published week by week.

How it works

WHAT IS A TRAINING SESSION LIKE?

1

Pre-departure briefing

We review the weather report, the day's sailing plan and assign roles to each student.

2

Hands-on sailing

Each student takes the helm for at least 1 hour: sailing maneuvers, tacks, gybes, anchoring and docking.

3

Debriefing

Back at port, we analyze what went well, what to improve and plan the next objectives.

4

Continuous progression

Weekly sessions to build confidence. Advanced PPER holders practice full charter operations with simulated passengers.
